I bought this game on Steam a while ago. I'm sure you can find it for a decent price, especially with the Winter Steam Sale going on.
Anyways, of all the PC games I've played, none of them infatuate me like Warband does. Sure, there's not a whole lot for YOUR [character's] overall storyline, but what you do in Calradia ultimately determines the stability of entire regions of the world. But Mount and Blade wouldn't be quite as entertaining without the combat. This is probably the only game in the world I could fight a thousand warriors...and defeat each and every single one of them with pleasure. Seriously, this is the smoothest fighting I've ever had in a game this side of Kingdom Hearts. I'll admit the learning curve is a steep mountain to climb, but learning the economics and fighting side of the game is what makes the greatest players of any strategy game such as this one.
And then there's the mods. Some include new areas (which come with new tools) which extend everywhere from ancient Japan to the whole of Europe, or fictional regions such as Middle Earth. Speaking of weapons, maybe you fancy a few new weapons, more diplomacy options, or an even greater plot beyond the troubles of Calradia.
Plus, you can fix the graphics with these mods. I didn't mind them too much, even if they're rather...low-resolution. Just letting you know.
Will all being said, I wholeheartedly support Mount and Blade: Warband. I do wonder if anyone else has played the game, and if so, if anyone enjoys it on the scale that I do.

Hmmm interesting. One of my friends would love a game similar to that one because he's into strategy war games and such. I've never played something like this before, but it sounds pretty awesome. Of course, mods are always a plus to computer games~
Also if it's real time fighting we're talking about it already sounds amazing!!

It's all real-time strategy.
Thankfully so, because now I get to tell the tale of surviving an entire Khanate with only 30 spearmen
