FAQ-Where do I play?-This links to where we play the game. When you sign into Discord, you can use whatever username you want and rename yourself in the chat if you'd like. Most of the time, it would be easier for us refs to find who you are if you use a familiar name in the discord chat. Find a referee and they'll help you start your journey. (Please note that we always RP in third person to avoid confusion. So no use of "you" or "I" When speaking out of quotes.) Then you're set! After RPing with a referee a few times, it's possible to RP without a ref in case none are available, though this can be very limiting to your game play. In the discord chat, you'll be able to tell who has what role based on the color of their username. Blue meaning they are a Ref, Green meaning they are a moderator, and Red meaning they are an Admin. A Ref could be any of these three colors. Sometimes, they will also have "-Ref" at the end of their username. If you're unsure about a Moderator or Admin being a Ref, click on their name on the right side and a window will pop up to show what roles they hold. (As Shown Below.) -I'm broke! How do I earn cash in-game?-In PokeAdv, our currency is Pokédollars. Whenever you win a battle, place first in a contest, or participate in a musical, you gain a little money. Train hard: if you lose a battle, you'll lose money! You can also earn money by refereeing battles for other players. You earn out-of-game Pokedollars every time you post on the forum - one post is worth 10 Pokédollars. You can use this out-of-game cash to save towards more expensive things like houses and vehicles. -Are there any restrictions to what pokemon i can start with?-Yes, you can only start with ONE basic or baby pokemon. No legendaries, not a team of pokemon, ONE basic/baby pokemon. -How does time progress?-Even hours represent day time, odd hours represent night time. Because players may be spread out over different time zones, we go by the clock of your current play session's referee. -I'm ready to make my first character! What do I do?-Go to the Character Sheets section in the Info Box and find the Character Sheet Template thread. The second post in that thread contains the code for the form that must be filled out. After you start your Character Sheet thread, you can copy-and-paste the form into new posts for additional characters. You'll be required to send your referee a link to your character sheet each time you play, so please make sure to keep it up-to-date! -Can I make characters based on official Pokemon anime or game characters?-Yes, however make sure they are characters based on an official Pokemon character, rather than using the character exactly as they appear in the games/anime as canon characters are used as NPCs in PokeAdv. i.e. Please don't use an image of Green, be named Green, use Green's history and have his Pokemon team. It would be awkward to run in to Green if you're trying to be Green. -How many characters can I have?-You can has as many characters as you can handle. If you find one character isn't being used or you don't want to RP as them any more, simple delete them off your character sheet and inform that character's usual referee. -How does the Pokemon League work on PokeAdv?-It's very simple. The Pokemon Leagues exist in the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova. In order to challenge the league, you need to gain the badges that are 'permanent'. This means that the badges you collect must be 8 total to compete in the regional tournament for the champion slot. However, due to the Pokemon Association, they help develop new ways for trainers to enjoy the lifestyle of pokemon, so based on the players ( you ), the world can morph and change and new competitions can arrive. -How many people can I RP as?-You can RP as one or two character(s) at a time. -Are TMs and HMs reusable?-Yes they are. -Can I travel to different regions?-Yes you can. You can go to another region via airport or harbor. They are specifically labeled under certain cities in the Map Guide of the Handbook. You could attempt to surf or fly there, however you would most likely have to take stops realistically, so the referees would make it a long journey to get to the other region. -Can clothes be bought in the pokemart?-It depends on if the ref allows clothes to be in the pokemart. However, there will always be clothes in the department stores. -What kind of starters can we choose from?-You can choose any one baby or basic pokemon you want. You also have the choice of making them shiny if you really wanted to! That just goes to show you the flexibility you have in designing the ideal starting character. Here is a list of possible starters you may start out with: -How do I evolve Pokemon that evolve by trading (Graveler, Kadabra etc.)?-These Pokemon, once leveled up, must be traded with another person, human or NPC. Pokemon that require items must also hold these items during the trade to evolve. Be wary, however: the Pokemon Association is in no way responsible for theft! BATTLE SYSTEMGet ready trainers, because you're about to learn about one of the best, most unique parts of PokeAdv: The battle system! Opportunities to battle occur randomly throughout your play session. Our battle structure is specially designed by our Game Master, 大輔ーRPG、 and though it may look intimidating and hard to learn at first it's great fun once you get the hang of it.
First of all, to battle, you definitely need a ref with you. Your referee will handle how the bulk of your battle plays out; the finer points are all worked out with timers and random number generators. We won't bore you with the details here. If you want to learn more about reffing, and perhaps get the chance to become a ref yourself, head over to the Referee Guide. When a battle is triggered, send out your choice Pokemon by using the *send* command. Let's say your opponent sent out a Snivy, and then you sent out your Pikachu. The referee would drop a line similar to the one below: Snivy - 20/20 hp ||| Pikachu - 20/20 hpThe ref will make sure all the trainers are ready, then begin the count down. As soon as the referee says "Go!" trainers are allowed to make commands at any time, but once they call a move, they can't change it or take it back! Our battles proceed in real-time and are full of twists and turns, so limber up your typing fingers and keep focused! Things can get pretty intense. You can use your Pokemon's learned moves as well as this list of general commands: Attack: A basic, untyped attack that does 2 HP damage to the target.
Defend: Halves the damage of the oncoming attack. You keep defending until a new command is called. ( This can not defend stat altering or non-damaging attacks. )
Guard: Protects a single target as well as halve the damage of the oncoming attack. You keep defending until a new command is called. ( This can not defend stat altering or non-damaging attacks. )
Use *Item*: This allows the trainer to use items on their Pokemon. You can also have your Pokemon use their held item.
Dodge: Allows the Pokemon to move out of the way of an oncoming attack. Effective 50% of the time. ( Ground moves are 25% )
Jump: If the oncoming attack is of the ground type, you can dodge it 75% of the time. If the attack is of any other type, this specialized dodge will work 25% of the time. After jumping, the use can collide with a special attack with a physical or special attack.
Sidestep: Sidestep allows you to move out of the way of a physical move and get priority. It has a 65% chance of working against a physical attack when when they aren't attacking, but if you are attacking the percentage rate becomes 45%. It becomes 25% if you sidestep against a special move.
Slide: Slide allows you to move out of the way of a special move and get priority. It has a 65% chance of working against a special attack when when they aren't attacking, but if you are attacking the percentage rate becomes 45%. It becomes 25% if you slide against a physical move.
Struggle: This allows you to thwart an oncoming attack, preventing the move from dealing damage, at the cost of 1hp. Effective 60% of the time.
Breakthrough: This allows a physical attacking pokemon disperse a special move. This works 50% of the time and if fails the special attack does double the damage. However if the user overcomes, they do the same amount of damage they normally would.
*Switch*: Allows you to recall your Pokemon during battle and swap in a Pokemon in your party.
Recall *Pokemon*: This allows you to recall a Pokemon on the field without swapping to a different Pokemon. MEGA EVOLUTION: To Mega-Evolve you pokemon you need to have a Mega Stone and a Key Stone. You can only mega-evolve once and it cannot evolve outside of battling opponents. All of their stats are increased by 1. Confused yet? I've confusing myself writing this guide. Not to worry, Trainer: this is why we hold Trial Battles in our Battle Colosseum! A Trial Battle is an OOC battle against a fellow player or a ref volunteer, using any region starter. Before you get going on your own journey, you can participate in a few Trial Battles to get a feel for the setup of our unique battles: trust me, it's a lot easier to understand when you can see the battle play out in front of you. Besides, Trial Battles are really fun.
There are quite a few exciting tricks and surprises that we'll let you learn about during game-play. If you get confused about what just happened, ask your ref! And if you notice your referee has made a mistake, please correct them - try as we might, we're not infallible. Remember, battles can occur any time, any where. Keep on your toes, Trainer! Here are some additional types of battles and competition: Ranger Capture Rules:IF YOU'RE A RANGER PLEASE READ!The styler and the pokemon are both faced off as if it were a normal "Trainer" battle, however this time the styler can spin around the pokemon, and instead of the pokemon losing it's health it actually dwindles down to being the rangers partner. Base Capture Styler Energy: 20/20 ENERGY, 0/5 EXP Moves:Quick Swirl: does 1 capture point (Priority Tactic) Swirl: does 2 capture points (Rush Tactic) Power Swirl: does a charged capture for 5 points (Charge Tactic) Lift: 50% chance of moving the styler out of the way. (Dodge Tactic) Pokeassist *Pokemon* *Type* : The styler's attacks become the type of the pokemon use on it. If a pokemon is dual typed, you may choose which one it may be. Ranks:1 = +3 Energy (Fire/Flying Assist) 2 = +3 Energy (Bug/Fighting Assist) 3 = +3 Energy (Psychic/Normal) 4 = +3 Energy (Poison/Ice) 5 = +3 Energy (Electric/Dark) 6 = +3 Energy (Water) 7 = +3 Energy (Grass/Ground) 8 = +3 Energy (Steel/Rock) 9 = +3 Energy (Ghost) 10 = +3 Energy (Dragon) (Assists can work with your partner pokemon even if you aren't at the right rank) Type Advantages:Type advantages do the amount effect of tactical loops. So if you use a mudkip pokeassist against a charmander, the swirl does twice as much. If the chamander did a pokeassist to capture mudkip, it would do half as much. The pokeassist is based on the pokemon's type options ( Ex: Swampert is both water/ground, so you may choose which one you want to use ). The pokeassist will change back after you use 2 swirl tactics. You can use a pokeassist by using the command: *Pokeassist "pokemon"* You can also use your pokemon to attack the pokemon to weaken it, but if the last move is a pokemon attack your pokemon will get exp instead of the styler and it will be considered fainted. Pokemon Contest Rules:IF YOU'RE A COORDINATOR PLEASE READ!For Pokemon Contests there are four different rankings ( Normal, Super, Hyper, Master) for each of these included categories: -Cute -Beauty -Cool -Smart -Tough When a pokemon wins a contest, it earns a ribbon of the type of contest and it's ranking. So if you enter a pokemon in a hyper ranked cool contest from Hoenn, you're pokemon will gain the 'Hoenn hyper cool' ribbon. There are three rounds: Round 1: AppealThis is where you write up a description of your pokemon with the accessories that you have obtained and explain what the pokemon looks like accordingly in 60 seconds. Depending on what items you have on your pokemon that match the appeal will determine how many points will be added to your pokemon's score. Poffin eaten before the round will also help increase scores if mentioned. Round 2: Moves There are two parts to this section. The first is a description of a combination of moves, the more it fits into the category the better you gain in points. (This lasts for 2 minutes) This is basically a tournament, but within a 5 minute time limit as well as a Point Meter. Each pokemon has a total of 5 points, and each time a pokemon is hit by a move it is reduced by 1 point as well as the health. If Health or the Point Meter reaches 0, they lose. If the timer runs out, the pokemon with the larger Point Meter wins, if the Point meter is tied the pokemon with more health is the winner. Round 3: Dance (Super Contest Only - Hearthome City ) This is the dance appeal, you have to repeat the same move that is called. The pokemon that does it correctly and is first recieves 3 points. Pokemon that get the right move, but isn't first to get it, get's 2 points. The pokemon that gets the wrong move, but it's before the time to do the move ends gets 1 point, and if a pokemon misses they get 0 points. Songs last for 2 minutes. (120 seconds) Pokeathlon Rules:IF YOU'RE A POKEATHLETE PLEASE READ!Hurdle Dash: In hurdle dash the player uses the command "Jump" to jump over all the hurdles in a 3 minute time limit. The one with the most points is the one who came in the lead. Each time you make it over a hurdle you gain 2 points. Ring Drop: In Ring drop the player uses the "Attack" and "Dodge" command in order to stay on top of the ring. If a pokemon is knocked out of the ring the person who knocked it off gains 10 points. If the pokemon attacks into a collision it gains 3 points. This event lasts for 1 minute Snow Throw: In Snow Throw the player uses "Attack", "Hide", and "Dodge". The hide command is where you can hide between two snow platforms, but only one can be behind one of the two platforms. This lasts for 2 minutes. A hit is 1 point. Lamp Jump: The player can use the "Jump" command and the more jumps you use, the more of a chance you can catch a lamp. ( 25% = 1 point, 50% = 2 points, 75% = 3 points, 100% = 4 points) This event lasts for 1 minute. Relay Run: In the relay run you have a few options of "Slide", "Sidestep", "Jump", "Dodge". Each time you make the correct move you get 2 points. { Rock = Dodge , Jump = Mud, Sidestep = Crack, Slide = Boulder } This event lasts for 3 minutes. Block Smash: This event only allows the "Attack" Command. Every time a player says attack, every 10% = 1 point. ( 100% means you get 10 points for 10 blocks ) This event lasts for 1 minute Circle Push: This event is where you try to get into the right area of light. The only move you can use is "Slide" and "Sidestep". Determined on the light type depends on the percentage of getting in it. Green is 1 point, purple is 2 points, and blue is 5 points. This event lasts for 2 minutes. { Green = Sidestep (75%) , Purple = Slide (50%), Blue = Slide ( 25% ) } Disc Catch: The disc catch is where you command, "Jump" for a frisbee that's tossed in the air. The pokemon that jumps first gains the frisbee and earns 3 points. This event lasts for 2 minutes. Pennant Capture: Pennant Capture is where you try to get a flag within your possession. Each time the flags are randomized upon the field and you have to use the right move before they disappear. You can use "slide", "sidestep", "dodge", and "jump". Each time you pick the right move, you recieve a 2 point flag. This event lasts for 3 minutes. ( 25% per choice for each turn ) Goal Roll: Goal roll is where you hit a ball towards the other team with "Attack". You can defend your goal by using "Defend", however it's a 50% chance of defending your goal. Each time a team scores a goal they recieve 3 points. This event lasts for 2 minutes.
